About sxc.hu stockGreetings!About sxc.hu stock by Aeirmid
A few of you have been really worried lately about using stock from sxc.hu here because of the change in their ownership. Basically, you were concerned that their license says that you cannot redistribute their stock in whole or in part, by itself or combined with other elements, without the written approval of the original photographer.
As we all know by now, creating a photomanipulation is considered "making a derivative image." And we know we can't make premade backgrounds without permission from the photographers, as doing so is redistributing their work.
I advised a couple of you to check with the Help Desk and sxc.hu to find out the whole truth before making rash decisions about your group that could potentially make everyone panic.
Using my own personal account, I wrote to sxc.hu to find out what the story was. Here's what I said:
I was just wondering whether creating phot

I will be offline from the 8th july to the 19th july... (I'll be on archaeological excavations because sometimes, I'm more like a troll than a sweet Rapunzel ha ha ). So I'm really sorry if I will be unable to answer to all your questions until that. And don't worry, your participation will be validated as soon as I'll be at home ! (And to an eventual question : you are free to interpretate the theme as you want, be original at the point you want, be crazy if you love to be... All you really have to do is to work with me as

If you are interested by another one, keep in touch, I have already the theme in mind
It's time to announce the results !
Before that, I just have something to say and I hope you will read
I had so much difficulties to choose three winners because I was in hesitation to choose between beauty and concept. There are some wonderful pieces that are not in the winners selection and maybe you can be surprised... but I finally choose the conception and idea behind the picture and what can answer to the question "Why to protect and save the Nature?" I choose pictures that show this thing in the best way for me and under each winner, I will explain in what they answer so well to this question...
Why to protect the Nature ?
Because she gives colours, life and peace to our civilized world so sa

First of all, I wanted to remember you that I selected the winning works for the representation of a CONTRAST between a character and his environment, not for your skills to draw or photomanipulate. So, please, don't feel offended if your beautiful work hadn't be choosen . I tried to select the more creative works in my mind.
I would also tell you that I'm really happy with all these beautiful creations you did ! Many thanks for your participations, I hope you'll try to participate to the next contest .

Certainly the most creative work I've seen for this contest. Two "humanized" stars discovering a luminous town in the night. Excellent idea of contrast, really ! Congratulations f

Interview with XilaPhoenixArt1.First, please tell us something about you!Interview with XilaPhoenixArt by Celairen
I'm Vicky, a Belgian 38 years old married woman with two dogs that are like children to us. Since over 12 years I can't go work anymore because of my Fibromyalgia, so I have plenty of time to focuss on art. I also love reading fantasy books and watch fantasy movies... did I already mention that I love fantasy? Because my daily reality is often very hard, I search for distraction in different fantasy worlds. I very much enjoy spend time with my hubby: sitting outside, have a drink and so on.
2. When do you discover your passion for art? And what is your motivation making art?
I think I was born with art in my heart. Since very young age I didn't want to do anything else than drawing and painting. I also followed art school wich helped me a lot. As a young adult I made oil painting as a hobby. So the passion for art is a red line through my whole life. Later I found out about Paint Shop Pro and I became a tagger, focussed on a
New artist interview with scaredy--crowInterview with :iconscaredy--crow:New artist interview with scaredy--crow by XilaPhoenixArt
First goes first: Liv, tell us a bit about yourself please.
My name is Liv. I'm a teenager who's always been interested in art, and I discovered digital art a little while ago. I've been playing around with it and decided to try using the stock here on dA.
What do you think about the dA community so far?
I haven't been very involved in the community, but from what I can tell, it seems like a great place for beginning, intermediate, and advanced artists.
What do you like about photomanipulations?
I like trying to manipulate photos of models into different settings to give it a more fantastical theme. Photo manipulations are really fun for me to play around with, and I love seeing other people's creations. I think there's a lot of creativity in photo manipulations.
Your works often have a foggy, mysterious theme. What attracts you to this kind of art?
I value a lot of subtlety in artwork because I think it's much more attractive

Photomanipulation News November 25, 2012*Thanks to StarsColdNight for her significant contribution in helping with this newsletter! Thanks also to the many others who helped gather the news!Photomanipulation News November 25, 2012 by Aeirmid
Welcome, and update!
Welcome to your bigger, better photomanipulation newsletter. We are pleased to bring you up-to-date information about things that are going on in the community. It's been a busy few weeks, and we have a lot to share with you!
Direct link requirements on DDs
I spoke with fourteenthstar and Moonbeam13, and we decided that you should no longer have to put direct links to stock pictures in order to get a DD. So, you no longer need to direct link your stock pictures for DD purposes. (You DO still need to credit stock, though!) However, many groups still require those direct links for submissions, and that decision is entirely up to the group administrators. We hope this change will help make suggesting and posting DDs easier.
Illumination: The Art of BlendingHello everyone!Illumination: The Art of Blending by ScatteredAshe
At TheArtOfManipulation, we have a monthly learning challenge in which we focus on a technique, share information regarding that technique, and then challenge our members to use what they've learned to create a new work. We also interview various artist to get tips and tricks on the chosen technique.
Although the challenge has ended, I'm hoping you'll find that the information and interviews we put together to be useful!
The Art of Blending
What exactly do we mean by "blending"? Well, the most basic answer to this question is that blending is when you combine two or more photos into a new work and tinker with various settings/techniques to create one cohesive, flowing image. As always, this is easier said than done.
Take one stock photo
used by two artists
Do you have tutorials or guiding journals to share that concern Photomanipulation (written by you or others)? This is the place to do so!
Photomanipulated is just another photomanipulation group - or is it?
About the Group
#Photomanipulated will be a very interactive and hopefully very inclusive group for photomanipulators, designers, mixed media artists and resource providers - so in short, anyone who has something to do with manips be it by using the techniques in their work or providing resources for the manip community. We strive to give you a platform to share your inspiration, your resources, your techniques and your questions via submitting artwork and resources (your own or those you love) to the group.
